Media Release: Statement from the Coalition for Homeless Individuals on Gov. Baker homelessness plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOSTON – On behalf of the Coalition for Homeless Individuals, Karen LaFrazia, Executive Director of St. Francis House, released the following statement on Gov. Charlie Baker’s announcement

“It’s heartening to see Governor Baker and Lieutenant Governor Polito addressing homelessness in the Commonwealth. Providing $65 million in funding for family homelessness will ensure that children are put on a path toward permanent housing. We’re hopeful that the Baker Administration will show the same commitment to homeless individuals across the Commonwealth. It’s encouraging to see that our Commonwealth is restarting the Special Initiative to the Homeless Mentally Ill.

As service providers, we have developed effective measures over the last decade for changing the trajectory of homelessness for adult men, adult women, and unaccompanied youth over 18 despite stagnant funding. With an increased allocation of resources, our caregivers could provide even more services to help curb individual homelessness here in the Commonwealth.”
