Patriot Ledger: Homeless numbers press hard on local shelters

Local organizations serving the homeless are pointing to two unrelated events – the harsh winter and last October’s abrupt closure of the Long Island Bridge – as pressing reasons to boost state spending on helping homeless people.

The Coalition for Homeless Individuals, which includes Quincy-based Father Bill’s & MainSpring, announced plans to lobby state legislators for an additional $5 million in funding for the next fiscal year.
