The Patriot Ledger: Homeless in Weymouth get assist from Hingham-based group

WEYMOUTH — As darkness and the temperature fell Wednesday and a cold northwest wind blew across the parking lot of the Riverway Plaza on Route 3A, a group of volunteers hoped to help homeless people make it through what was expected to be a subzero night.

They placed bags with handwarmers, blankets, gloves, socks, some food and even a winter jacket outside a store in hopes that homeless people living in nearby Great Esker Park would use them. They also gave a worker at one of the stores who knows many of the homeless gift cards for local restaurants like McDonalds and Dunkin’ Donuts.
